This is our first post on Younghabits with the topic Young Achievers.I am going to cover the story of “Sergey Brin” the co-founder of Google.
Name: Sergey Brin
Born: 21st August 1973
Birthplace:Moscow,Russia.
Sergey Brin was born in Moscow,in the Soviet Union, the son of Michael Brin and Eugenia Brin.His father is a Mathematics professor at the University of Maryland and his mother is a research scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
Brin immigrated to the US at age of six.He attended grade school at Paint Branch Montessori School in Adelphi,Maryland,but he received his further education at home.His father is mathematics professor,nurtered his interest in mathematics and his family helped him.Brin enrolled in
University of Maryland,College Park to study computer science and mathematics after having attended High School.He received his Bachelor in Science degree in May 1993 with honors.
Brin began his graduate study in Computer Science at Stanford University on a graduate fellowship from the National Science foundation.In 1993,he interned at Wolfram Research,makers of Mathematica.
Turning point of Life:
He met Larry Page during an orientation for new students at Stanford University.Soon they get closer with each other and share the ideas.Brin’s focus was on developing data mining system.
They combined their ideas,and crammed their dormitory with cheap computers and tested their search engine’s design on the web.Their project grew quickly.They realized they had succeeded in creating superb search engine for searching the web and soon they suspended their PhD studies to focus more on their Project.
Sergey and Larry joined hands together to soliciting the funds from faculties members,family and friends.They buy some servers and rent the famous garage in Menlo Park.
The story started about Google Inc.
Personal Life:
Brin Married in may 2007 with Anne Wojciciki in the Bahamas.She is Biotech analyst,graduate of Yele University with B.S in biology.She has an active interest in health information, and working together she and Brin are developing new ways to improve access to it.Sergey Brin has an estimated wealth of $16 billion
Awards:
Brin has been the recipient of many honors. He was a featured speaker at the World Economic Forum and the Technology, Entertainment and Design Conference. In 2004, he and Page were named Marconi Fellows. PC Magazine has praised Google in the Top 100 Web Sites and Search Engines (1998) and awarded Google the Technical Excellence Award, for Innovation in Web Application Development in 1999. In 2000, Google earned a Webby Award, a People’s Voice Award for technical achievement, and in 2001, was awarded Outstanding Search Service, Best Image Search Engine, Best Design, Most Webmaster Friendly Search Engine, and Best Search Feature at the Search Engine Watch Awards.
